Archive

Our archive & library contain hundreds of books, documents, photographs and plans relating to Biggar and the surrounding area.

A photographic digitisation protect is on-going but if you wish to see street plans or plans of church buildings, old school registers, our Polish archive for example you’ll need to come in and see us. Please book an appointment to view or research these and many others items. You’ll be very welcome.

We welcome enquiries but if our volunteers undertake research on your behalf and this takes longer than 20 minutes there may be a charge if you wished us to investigate further. Do feel free to contact us for more information.

Arrange a visit to the archive

Biggar Museum has extensive collections and many items are not on display. To make our collections as accessible as possible for visitors and the local community to enjoy, we warmly welcome visits to our archive. Please note a research visit needs to be booked in advance due to space and resources available. We will be as flexible as possible regarding days and times, though we are largely dependent on volunteers to facilitate access. There is no charge to research in the archive although a donation never offends!
However, there is a charge for photocopying and photographic reproduction.
