Fronting the Map: Tracing the Spatial History of the Polish Armed Forces in Scotland by Sól Association

The Fronting the Map exhibition offers a unique look at the presence of the Polish Armed Forces in Scotland during the Second World War — told not through dates and events, but through the places, traces and maps that still shape the Scottish landscape today.

The exhibition presents history as something living and rooted in the spaces around us. It invites visitors to discover how the wartime experiences of Polish soldiers continue to resonate across Scottish towns, villages and valleys.

You may know that during the Second World War, several thousand soldiers were sent to Biggar and the surrounding areas to train to fight. Biggar Museum will also be showcasing a few items from our own Polish Soldiers Collection that are not typically on display.
