A Demonstration by Mungo McCosh
As part of the Mungo McCosh: The Art of the Linocut exhibition, on Saturday 3rd October from 11am, Mungo will cut and print a linocut allowing visitors to see how a print is made and try their had at inking and printing.

Utilising items from the Museum’s collection in conjunction with his own Linocut prints Mungo McCosh, in a new exhibition, explores the evolution of relief printing. Beginning with 19th century woodblock printing as an economical means of decorating commercial packaging the exhibition progresses to the invention of linoleum, a flooring material utilised by artists since the early 20th century as a means of creating colourful and affordable art.
A painter as well as a printmaker for over 30 years McCosh has exhibited widely in Britain and abroad. Whilst based in the Scottish Borders he spent 3 years painting a Rood screen in a church in Istanbul and was an embedded artist with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in Iraq. Books illustrated with the artist’s prints will be on show at the Biggar Museum alongside his most recent linocuts which were made from sketches drawn in Rome whilst accompanying The King on his state visit to the Pope in 2025.
