An exhibition of recent paintings in mixed media by artist Douglas Davies RSW.
Born in Edinburgh, Douglas has lived in the Scottish borders for over 40 years and has found constant inspiration in the views all around. The changing skies, challenging shapes and the all-important quality of light, from dawn till dusk, throughout the season. As well as scenes from the borders, Douglas’ work is also inspired by visits to Catalonia, the north of Spain and south west France. His sketchbook is ever at the ready to capture whatever stimulates his senses, be it vineyard, olive grove or the brilliant blue Mediterranean.
These sketchbooks form the inspiration for several of Douglas’ paintings and a selection of sketchbooks is included as part of the exhibition.
Douglas is a Graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and was a Lecturer at Glasgow School of Art before becoming a full-time painter in 2000, when he was elected to be a member of Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW)
