Cubbys 85th Birthday Exhibition
Meet James A Cuthbertson, the incredible man behind the machines at “Cubbys” (James A Cuthbertson Ltd.) one of Biggar’s oldest firms!
Cuthbertson’s Engineering Company was set up in 1936 (it became a limited company 10 years later) by engineer and inventor James Archibald Cuthbertson. It was an early manufacturer of rubber tracks and designed the first endless rubber belt which became particularly significant during WWII.
James A Cuthbertson himself, was a man of extraordinary skill and talent. He travelled widely and made interesting and significant connections in many countries. This included working with the governments of the UK, Canada and the USA and on the underwater pipeline from Britain to France to supply Allied vehicles after D-Day.
75 years on, the limited company Cuthbertson created is still based in Biggar and specialises in equipment for the treatment of winter conditions. This exhibition marks the significant milestone of Cuthbertson’s Engineering Company reaching it’s 85th birthday. It explores the legacy of the man and the engineers who worked for him not only on Biggar, but on the wider world.
Cubby’s 85th Birthday Exhibition runs from Saturday 11th December to Sunday 27th March (weekends only).
